Whose Voice Is It?

As a New Year has just begun, most of us are still in the midst of making resolutions and changes in our lives. We wonder what will 2008 bring. Some of us may be excited because of the possibilities and the promises anticipated in 2008. Others may be dreading it--the year has arrived and there will be many choices for us to make. When you are making these choices, whose voice are you listening to? Is it your own, your partner’s, your friend’s? Perhaps it is your parent’s or your child’s? Someone else? Or do you take the time to listen to God’s voice?

This year, the cabinet of the Disciple Women’s Ministries in Pennsylvania is planning two spring events centered on the theme “Whose Voice Is It? Learning to Listen for God.” While all of the details are still be planned, the dates are set.

  • April 19, 2007 at Fairhill Manor Christian Church in Washington, PA
  • April 26, 2007 at Marple Christian Church in Broomall, PA

The spring events provide opportunities for ALL disciple women to come together to learn, to fellowship, to laugh, and to sing. Through the fellowship we will also be learning how to listen to God’s voice through worship, through study, and through mission opportunities.

As part of the spring event, a brief presentation on the Disciple Women’s Ministries study material for 2008-2009 will be provided. With the presidential election, the lingering war, and the injustice in the world, it is important to listen and to hear God’s voice in the midst of all of the changes. The study material focuses on learning how to listen for God's voice through the following methods:

  • Personal testimonies of how the Bible has shaped individual lives
  • A look at Bible stories where people literally heard the voice of God
  • Some hints on using Bible Study tools to “turn up the volume” on God’s voice
  • Stories of God’s power told in the voices of our sisters far and wide
  • Ideas for praying with scripture to amplify God’s voice in our souls

As you can see, the study material centers around listening for God’s voice through studying the Bible and meditating on God’s words.

I hope to see you at one of the Spring Events! I pray God blesses you throughout 2008!
